Short Film | Human

Here’s my latest short made for the Windie City Shootout in August. The challenge was to write, shoot, and edit a film in 72 hrs.

The audio is a little rough, but will be fixed for further fests.

My team and I won the Audence Choice award for this film, and with it a $10K budget to make a feature.

I’m a Nobody Filmmaker

“I’m a nobody filmmaker: I don’t have a recognizable name nor a recognizable film.

In essence, most of the world couldn’t care less about me nor my movies.”

— Christopher J. Boghosian

These are words that begin a very interesting, and thought provoking blog post on the Hope for Film site. Its a great post that delves into the honest truth that filmmakers have to earn credibility, hype and leverage. Unless your name is Spielberg, Tarantino, or Coppola (Pictured Above) no one is going to give you money to make your film. You have to earn the right to ask people for money.

How do you earn it? By making films!

So instead of trying to come up with the next big hit, or hyping up your film as the next big thing….just make films. Make films within your means with favors, begging , and sneaking around filming locations.

“An expert baker who has studied and worked for years would scoff at a novice attempting to develop a great loaf of bread. It takes years of trial-and-error, blood, sweat and tears to bake great bread.”

I think people are to quick to call themselves a Filmmaker just because they buy a new and fancy camera. It takes years for study, practice, and experience to learn any craft. You have to understand all aspects of Filmmaking including; Acting, Writing, Art Design, Sound, Music, and most important Storytelling.

This post is a great read for anyone starting out, or us old veterans looking for inspiration. I’m defiantly inspired to go out, and continue to develop my craft. I’ll also continue to look for support from my friends, family, and small handful of fans that watch my films, read my blog, and comment on my work in general.

Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On

Been listening to this everyday for the past 2 weeks. Great song, and video!

Trailer | Boss

Starz just premiered the trailer for their new Fall 2011 show “Boss” starring Kelsey Grammer as the Mayor of Chicago. Boss is being filmed here in Chicago @ Cinespace Studios on the West Side. The trailer doesn’t tell us much about the series or the story, but it does set-up Grammer as a tough as nails politician.

Here is Starz official synopsis of the show……

“Ruthless politician Mayor Tom Kane (Grammer) sits like a spider at the center of Chicago’s web of power. But underneath it all, Kane hides a crushing secret. His trusted advisors Kitty O’Neill (Roberston) and Ezra Stone (Donovan) know better than to ask questions. Kane’s wife Meredith (Nielsen) knows nothing. Only Emma (Hannah Ware), Kane’s estranged daughter, has a chance of uncovering the truth. This is going to be the toughest term yet for the Boss.”

Boss Premieres October 21st.

Web Series | Mortal Kombat Legacy

Hot off the heels of the recent Mortal Kombat Video Game Reboot, which brought the game back to it’s “Humble” beginnings, comes a new Web Series from Warner Bros., Nether Realm Studios, and distributed via YouTube by Machinima. Director Kevin Tancharoen has brought the failed film franchise back to life with a more realistic, and gritty interpretation of the action saga.

Wikipedia actually has a pretty detailed description of the creation of the series starting with Tancharoen’s self financed Mortal Kombat Rebirth (Below), his meetings with MK creator Ed Boon, and the eventual filming of the series.

Reviews have been mixed, but I love it. It’s without a doubt the best produced web series I’ve seen, and the action sequences are shot really well. New episodes debut on Monday nights, and there are already talks of a season 2.

8 Count Boxing Fight Night Intro

Here’s a “Hype” video I edited for 8 Count Productions, who put on the boxing events @ UIC Pavilion. It debuted last night before the main event. I’ll more than likely be adding more to the fonts, and adding new knock outs as they happen.
